Episode 9: The Symbol of Resurrection
What comes to mind when you hear the word “resurrection”? Depending on your upbringing and faith background, the word might immediately conjure images of Christ, our most recently resurrected religious figure. With that said, the story of cyclic death and rebirth is something that seems to have occupied cultural imagination for as long as we’ve had myths and stories.
Whether we’re telling the tale of Inanna’s descent to the underworld, Seth’s destruction of Osiris and his subsequent resurrection by Isis, Persephone’s abduction to and return from Hades, Orpheus’s descent in search of Eurydice, Dionysus’s dismemberment and resurrection (or double-birth), the list goes on and on.
What does resurrection hold for us, and why is it such a consistent theme across cultural narratives?
In episode 9 of Soror Mystica, we explore resurrection as the ultimate symbol of transcendence, a reminder of life's many moments of death and renewal, and the important role it plays in our personal psyches. We also explore one of our listener's queries on the symbolism of rats and a synchronistic experience in their ancestral home.
